Get Cracking on Your Career! 7 Ways to Motivate and Achieve Your Career Goals.

26/03/2018

Easter is just around the corner and we’re EGGstatic!

We can’t wait for the nights to start getting that little bit lighter and leaving winter that little bit further behind. We are also celebrating the only time of year that Cadbury’s Mini Eggs hit our shelves and we intend to stock up generously on these yummy delicacies.

We’re sure you’ll agree that treats always feel better when you’ve earned them; with that said, we are here to challenge you to get cracking on your career; this way, you can fully indulge as a big thank you to yourself when the event rolls around!

To help you earn your eggs, below are 12 ways to get motivated and get cracking on your career to achieve your goals.

1. Start at the finish line:

I know, what a strange thing to say; but really, if you can conquer this you could be onto a winner! Humans are naturally good at trying to minimise pain; we know that pushing ourselves isn’t always going to be easy, so all too often we remain in our comfort zone. To overcome this, try visualising the end goal, i.e. a new job title, graduating or making a real difference. If you start by seeing the end goal, it is likely to boost those all important happy hormones and pump you full of enthusiasm about taking the journey to the end destination.

2. Small wins equal big wins:

You’ve heard it before, but we will say it again, ‘it won’t happen overnight’. One of the best tips we have for up-keeping a ‘can do’ attitude is setting small milestones. Once you have achieved the first aim, set the second, achieve that and so on. Before you know it, the end goal will be in sight. Smaller stepping stones are a much more manageable approach than attempting to take one giant leap. Trust us, if you do it this way, you’re less likely to fall.

3. Self-Care:

This one is important. If you aren’t feeling your best, how can you achieve your best? We are all guilty of living life in the fast lane, grabbing food on the go, neglecting our need for sleep and not taking time out to de-stress. However, to crack your career goals you are going to need to give yourself some well- deserved ‘me time’. Run a bath, apply a face-mask and let the relaxing commence!

4. Learn From Your Mistakes:

Without meaning to sound like your mother, it is really valuable to learn from life’s little set-backs. Although highly frustrating and often upsetting, we suggest that once the dust has settled, you pick up the courage to revisit past errors and assess why they happened and how to prevent similar situations from taking place again. Once you acknowledge where it went wrong, you can start to feel more proactive and positive. The result of reliving bad moments is that it will help to lift your spirits and you'll be back on track before you know it.

5. Problem Solving:

Let’s be honest, getting it right first time and everything going swimmingly is more of a dream than a reality, but that’s fine- in fact, that’s life! As such, preparing for potential problems is a good way to stay on track. If you know that you have a holiday booked, or that childcare could throw a big curve-ball at you, then recognising such obstacles in advance is a wise move. Keeping a realistic version of events is clever, as disappointment and aggravation can be greatly reduced, leaving you to continue positively with your goals.

6. Happy, Smiley People:

What a difference a smile makes! To smash those all important milestones, positivity really is key. As we spend large amounts of time at work, environment is everything. Being surrounded by ‘Debbie downers’ is unlikely to uplift our spirits and channel our inner Princess Poppy (sorry, couldn’t resist a Trolls films reference). On that note, seeking out the positive people in work is a great tactic to keep spirits elevated, determination strong and your self-confidence heading towards the sky.

7. Success in Yours:

If you feel yourself heading for the dreaded ‘wall’, it’s time for a classic ‘thought cloud moment’. Grab a pen and paper, or type the list into the notes section on your phone listing all the reasons why you started, why you want to carry on and why you want to complete the task ahead. Remembering what you are doing and refocusing on the end goal could help to pep you up and get you back on track to cracking your career ambitions!
