One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding apprenticeships is that they are only available to school leavers. However, recent reforms to government funding have changed the face (and age) of apprenticeships.
Anyone aged 16 and over can be enrolled on an apprenticeship, including school leavers, career changers, and people looking to develop their skills as part of their current job.
Your business can take on as many apprentices as required.
The minimum wage for apprentices is £4.30 p/h.
Learners who have completed 12 months of an apprenticeship, move to the National Minimum Wage rate of pay.
An apprenticeship agreement is signed by the employer and apprentice before the start of the programme and outlines key details about the apprenticeship.
It’s a legal requirement and acts as a contract of employment between the apprentice and employer. Apprentices younger than 18 will need to get a parent or guardian sign on their behalf.
The agreement is one of two documents that all apprentices will need to sign before starting the programme. The other required document is called the apprenticeship commitment statement, which is an agreement between the apprentice, employer, and training provider. Both documents are usually signed at the apprentice induction meeting.
The length of an apprenticeship depends on the specific standard but will be between one and four years. The training programme for all apprenticeships will be at least 12 months long. The minimum length was introduced with new apprenticeship standards as a measure to improve programme quality.
Level 2 Apprenticeships will usually be around 12 to 18 months long, and a Level 3 or Level 4 apprenticeship will usually be between one and two years. The length depends on the level of apprenticeship, the industry sector, and the existing knowledge of the apprentice.
Apprenticeships at levels 5, 6 to 7 can usually last anything between two to five years in total. Again, this depends on the exact standard of apprenticeship, your employer and level of competency.
Graduates are able to complete apprenticeships if they do not already have a qualification in the chosen field.
All learning activity directly connected to the Apprenticeship. Your Apprentice will reflect on experiences had in the workplace to count towards their off-the-job training.

Our apprentices are very important as they can be nurtured to become a member of our dedicated team and we get to share their journey from when they start as enthusiastic passionate individuals to develop and grow into Qualified practitioners.
Apart from completing their training to enhance their knowledge and understanding of child development and the early years foundations stage, they gain valuable on the job training through supporting key staff to complete key person roles and responsibilities.
Each apprentice is aware of our policies and procedures and build great relationships with all the staff, children and parents whilst they complete their qualification. They can then join the team at the end of the qualification as someone already familiar to us and all the company policies and procedures.
