Paul Moore, a Training Officer here at BB Training Academy, has a real passion for the childcare industry. In more than 20 years of working internationally in childcare, Paul has held a range of roles including Operations Manager, First Aid Trainer and Childcare Consultant. Those positions and his experiences have led him to his role as a Senior Training Officer at BB Training Academy.
One of Paul’s key focuses as a training officer is young children’s mental health. He believes it’s not talked about enough and its importance is undervalued.
“Many in the industry will preach, ‘the first five years are so important’ but that is literally the tip of the iceberg. A more interesting angle would be, how much of who you are stems from your childhood? Research shows that many mental illnesses develop from a young age, but not enough people are talking about it and what action needs to be taken. We need to do more to treat and understand mental health in early years and as practitioners it’s our responsibility to be at the forefront of change.
Introduction to Supporting Children’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Course.
“I’ve spent much time researching and speaking with specialists and the (nearly) end product is a course on ‘Mental Health in Early Years’. I am so passionate about it and believe the right training for practitioners surrounding mental health in early years could have a really positive affect on children later in life.
“I’m really proud of the course I’ve worked on, it really breaks down what mental health is and challenges some of the negative stigmas. It also looks at ways to support children and families."
