Being read to is such a special feeling - it helps to build
relationships and is a moment of shared connection.
Books are very important for early vocabulary learning, and
for language learning in general. The volume of books read by or read to
children has a direct impact on the size of their vocabulary.
Children who were read to frequently as a child are more
likely to read for pleasure in later life, and research tells us that reading
for pleasure is the single biggest indicator for success in life - more than
family circumstances, educational background, or income.
In addition, for those children who develop this love of
books and reading, the positive impact means that they will also make better
progress in maths, vocabulary and spelling than those who rarely read.
