Job Description

Your Mission

The Functional Skills Officer will deliver excellence in learning across the business, providing support to learners via various methods to enable them to achieve their Functional Skills within the allocated timeframe, ultimately leading to the timely achievement of their apprenticeship. This will be achieved through innovative approaches that meet the needs of each learner as an individual. You will have excellent knowledge of Functional Skills, both Maths and English, and be able to demonstrate excellent customer service, employer engagement, and success against KPIs.


Key Tasks

· Support learners and provide engaging sessions to progress their knowledge and complete their exams within the required time periods - English 6 months and Maths 9 months

· Teaching and support will be delivered across a range of blended learning styles to suit the needs of the learner. These can include face-to-face sessions where necessary, group sessions, independent learning via activity setting, and online sessions via Teams.

· Visit every learner every 4 weeks, demonstrating progression toward the required aims

· Support in the development of resources and activities to enhance the learner's progress

· Set and mark mock exams and provide constructive feedback to support the learner to improve

· Ensure that all teaching practices align with Awarding Organisation rules and that learners understand the processes for sitting exams in line with invigilation policies and procedures.

· Be enthusiastic and proactive in developing your own skills in the workplace

· Demonstrate a commitment to continued professional development


Requirements for the Role

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Have flexibility and be able to work to tight deadlines

· Organised and able to manage multiple activities

· Be willing to travel UK-wide to deliver intense support sessions and attend regular meetings

· Full UK driving licence

· Level 3 Award in Education and Training Or TAQA (or willing to work towards)

· Level 2 / Grade C / Grade 4 qualification in Maths and English

· Prior experience in coaching or assessing in an apprenticeship environment with an emphasis on Functional Skills

· Confident in the use of IT systems, including delivery of online sessions via Teams and Microsoft packages

· Basic understanding of apprenticeships and the requirements to achieve

· A good understanding of Awarding Organisations rules and procedures
