Job Description

People Advisor

As a People Advisor you will play a key role in supporting the full employee lifecycle across multiple departments. You will act as the first point of contact for HR-related queries, offering professional, timely advice and guidance to managers and em-ployees alike. Working closely with leadership and operational teams, you will help drive a positive and high- performing culture, ensuring all people practices align with employment law, sector regulations, and the organisation's values. Your role will also support initiatives such as recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, policy development, and staff wellbeing—helping to build an engaged and effective workforce committed to learner success.

Your Responsibilities

People

  • Support the management team on all people leadership matters, including business change and transformation
  • Form strong relationships with managers to able to challenge and coach
  • Offer guidance and support to all employees should they have any HR related queries
  • Lead People colleagues to monitor and update People policies in line with current legislation
  • Ensure employee relations matter are handled sensitively and confidentiality
  • Ensure all starters, leavers and changes are verified

Growth

  • Develop and implement any new policies which are identified as required
  • Take lead in developing and supporting continuous improvement
  • Gather and act on employee feedback to improve the HR service offering

Quality

  • Ensure payroll procedures are followed to meet the delivery of an accurate and secure payroll service
  • Ensure the recruitment process is delivered in line with the safer recruitment policy to promote the provider of choice
  • Maintain People, payroll and employee records as required
  • Support the resolution of employee issues in a way that balances organisational priorities with individual needs.

Customers

  • Support line managers with matters relating to performance, capability, grievance, sickness in timely manner
  • Support employee wellbeing initiatives to enhance satisfaction and engagement
  • Contribute to employee engagement and retention strategies to meet internal customer expectations and reduce turnover
  • Liaise with external providers (e.g. payroll, occupational health, legal advisors) to ensure services are delivered effectively to employees.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a proactive and people-focused HR professional with experience supporting line managers and employees across the employee lifecycle. They will have a solid understanding of employment law, excellent communication skills, and the confidence to advise on employee relations matters such as absence, performance, and conduct.

They should be adaptable, able to work independently, and comfortable in a fast -paced environment where priorities may shift quickly. Experience within education, training, or public sector settings is desirable, along with a CIPD qualification (or working towards it). A genuine passion for supporting people and improving workplace culture.

Experience

  • Previous experience of leading a People environment department
  • Previous experience of leading recruitment process
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office
