A First Aid at Work (FAW) training course is described by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as meeting the same requirements as EFAW training but it ‘also equips the first-aider to apply first aid to a range of specific injuries and illnesses’.
This workplace first aid course is more extensive than the EFAW training course, and is designed to not ONLY qualify trained employees to respond to a range of situations, but also those which are classed as emergencies.
What will I learn on a First Aid at Work Course?
You will learn the practical skills needed by first aiders in most workplaces to become a confident first aider at work. This course gives you comprehensive knowledge of how to deal with first aid emergencies.
What Key Topics are Covered on a First Aid at Work Course?
Aims and priorities of first aid and how to deal with an emergency in the work place, inc:
- HSE regulations, including first aid kits and recording of incidents and accidents
- Casualty assessment
- Recovery position, practical resuscitation - CPR
- Choking and other airway complications
- External and internal bleeding major and minor
- Eyes, ears and nose injuries, fracture management, muscles and joint injuries
- Head and spinal injuries
- How to recognise to deal with shock, anaphylactic shock and electric shock
- Burns and scalds
- Heart conditions and stroke
- Seizures
- Diabetes
- Poisons
- Understanding and usage of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Written and practical assessments.
